Montessori Spotlight: Meet Westlake’s Ms. Stephenie

It’s Montessori Week at Creative Playrooms! To celebrate, we asked Westlake’s Ms. Stephenie to write about her Montessori journey:
My name is Stephenie Loris, and I am the Montessori Directress at Creative Playrooms Westlake. For the past 25 years, I have had the pleasure of teaching students the wonderful methods of Maria Montessori. I began my education at Bowling Green State University and later obtained my AMS Montessori certification from the North American Montessori Training Center. I am a wife and mother of two adult daughters and a 15-year-old son. I love all sports, especially football and I am a busy basketball mom.
The main purpose of Montessori school is to provide a carefully prepared, stimulating environment which will help the child develop a positive attitude about school, self-confidence and good learning habits. The children are free to work at their own pace with materials they have chosen from seven different learning areas – which include sensorial, math, geography, language, science, art and practical life.
The Montessori method of education really means a lot to me because I observe daily just how successful children can be when they are free to develop at their own pace. I see my students grow and obtain critical life skills, creative thinking, persistence, and concentration skills which will ensure a positive future and a love for learning.
